Wilhelmina Paul was born April 10, 1913, at Glen Ullin, the daughter of Joseph and Celestina (Stoltz) Paul. She was raised on her parent's farm and attended school in Glen Ullin. At age 19, she moved to Bismarck where she worked as a cook and housekeeper. Wilhelmina married Jacob Martin on Nov. 10, 1936, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Bismarck. In 1943, they moved to Mandan where they built a home and raised their family.
In 2003, at age 90, they moved to Valley View Assisted Living in Bismarck where they lived until Jacob's death in 2007. At age 95, Wilhelmina embraced the challenge of leaving her North Dakota home to live with family in Virginia, where she resided with her daughter, Carol, until her death.
Known by her friends as Minnie, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, homemaking and gardening. She learned to cook from handed down family recipes which she related to those who asked as having a "little" of this or a "scoop" of that. She has been a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church since moving to Mandan in 1943, and a 45-year member of Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by two daughters, Pauline (Harvey) Orndorf, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Carol Schultz, Glen Allen, Va.; one son, Jacob Jr., Great Falls, Mont.; four grandchildren, Catherine (Pier) Parisio, West Linn, Ore., Monica (Dale) Klein, Poulsbo, Wash., Cerise (Larry) Estep, Powhatan, Va., and Joshua Martin, Reno, Nev.; five great-grandchildren, Max Parisio, Jacob, Elizabeth and Wilhelmina Klein and Carter Estep.
