Life Legacy
Surrounded by his loving family, Arnold Joseph Brilz, 84, formerly of Mohall and Minot, ND, left this world from the Highmore Healthcare Facility in Highmore, South Dakota on Friday, March 6, 2015 to join his Heavenly Father.
Arnold was born on July 20, 1930, in Richardton, ND, to Margaret (Renner) and Rochus Brilz. The youngest of eight children, he helped out on the family farm near Richardton, ND and attended school at the Assumption Abbey. After graduation from high school, he attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton to learn the printing trade, leading to an approximate 30 year career at the Renville County Farmer newspaper in Mohall, ND.
He married the love of his life, Marlene Blowers on December 30, 1965 in Mohall. They made their home in Mohall where they raised two sons, Kenneth and Lynn. In 1997, Arnold and Marlene moved to Minot and bought a home in the Oak Grove neighborhood where they enjoyed spending time visiting with friends and neighbors.
Arnold was an avid gardener and was known for having a green thumb. He enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden, keeping his lawn looking nice, and growing flowers. He was known for his sense of humor and quit wit. One of his favorite pastimes was drinking coffee and swapping stories with his many buddies. He made friends easily and his caregivers at the Highmore Healthcare Facility became like family to him.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marlene of Pierre, SD; sons Kenneth (Peggy) of Pierre, SD and Lynn (Nichole) of Cary, NC; mother-in-law, Erna Tkachenko, Minot; brother-in-law, Bob Blowers and Donalda, Minot; sister-in-law, Rita Brilz, Boise, ID and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Eleanor, Ida, and Alvera; brothers Al, Ed, George, and Eugene; father-in-law, Emery Blowers and brother-in-law, Everett Blowers.
Memorial Service: Friday, March 13, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Minot.
Friends may sign a guest book one hour prior to the service at the church.
