Birth: Aug. 8, 1913 Death: Nov. 23, 1998 OBITUARY- ROSE CREEK -- A funeral Mass will be said for Lawrence Mathias Schmit at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek with the Rev. Rubin Spinler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Schmit, 85, of Rose Creek, a longtime area farmer, died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998). He was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Rose Creek. On Nov. 28, 1940, he married Dorothy Bisbee in Austin. Mr. Schmit farmed in the Rose Creek area most of his life and retired in 1983. He was a member St. Peter's Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening and yard work. Survivors include four daughters, Janice (Mrs. Dave) Bartley of Hillsboro, N.C., Carolyn (Mrs. Clifford) Tindal of Austin, Joyce (Mrs. Craig) Lerum of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Joanne (Mrs. Larry) Rein of Delta, Colo.; three sons, Jim and Mark, both of Rose Creek, and Jack of Austin; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three brothers, John, Peter and Louie, all of Rose Creek. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
