Anton A. Schatz Anton "Tony" Schatz was born in Hebron, North Dakota on August 13, 1925. He was born to Otillia and Balzer Schatz and was the 3rd of 8 children. His family moved to the Northwest in 1937 where he worked in the Puyallup Valley. He joined the Army in 1944.
After serving oversees he returned home, met and married Hazel Fox in 1948. Hazel preceded him in death in 1995 after 47 years of marriage. They had 3 daughters; Claudia Kniffin (John), Cheryl Cilenti (Doug) and Carol Rawson (Dave). He had 2 granddaughters, Michele Benedict and Jennifer Hansen (Steve) and 8 great grandchildren; Kerstyenn, Alexandra, Anastasia, Patrick, Christian, David, Tonilyn, and Brooklyn and loved being "Papa" to all.
Tony worked for Boeing Company for 32 years; retiring in 1986. He was a Charter Life Member of the American Motorcycles Association, and raced motorcycles as a hobby in the 60's and 70's; holding the #1 plate for lightweight riders in the NW 1967. He and Hazel also enjoyed riding around the country on his motorcycle. After retirement Tony loved going to Emerald Downs, having his daily Mocha, and reading his paper at the waterfront and spending time with his family and friends.
Tony is at peace with his Lord and at home with his wife, mother, sisters Jean, Rosemary, Ann, Eva and his brother Leo.
There will be a celebration of life held on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 2pm at Chambers Creek Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery, 9212 Chambers Creek Road West, Tacoma, WA. (253) 564-1311.
