Harvey Ernest "Frenchie" Villandry, age 85, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2008 after a lengthy illness. He was born January 30, 1923 in Lowell, Massachusetts. Harvey loved God, his country, his family and friends. In return he was loved by many. He had a twinkle in his eye, a ready smile and many stories. Harvey was a kind and generous man who proudly served in 3 wars, WW II, Korea, and Vietnam as a member of the United States Navy. He attained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer and Master Deep Sea Diver. After retiring from the Navy, Harvey owned and operated Frenchie's Lawn Boy Service for more than 38 years. Harvey was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of Little Flower Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Elks, the American Legion, and the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 293, Pensacola Fleet Reserve Association, among others.
Harvey was preceded in death by his father Ernest Villandry, mother Blanche Montbleau Gendreau, and brother "Pete" Villandry.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Bizic Villandry, sister Florette Gomes, stepchildren Larry (Patti) Bizic and Laura Bizic (Montgomery Rollins), step-grandsons and great-grandson, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 3 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, December 4 at Little Flower Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. Interment at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors will follow. Pallbearers will include Jim Gillespie, Angus Taylor, Roy Neuenswander, Tony Kehoe, Steve Kehoe, and Owen Bizic.
The family would like to thank Encore Senior Village and Covenant Hospice.
