Birth: Jun. 3, 1913 Death: Dec. 30, 2002 John Wilson Moore Sr., 89, Gosport, died Dec. 30, 2002, at the Gosport Nursing Home. The son of the late Charles and Ethel (Smith) Moore Nale, he was born on June 3, 1913, in Fredricksburg, Ind. His first wife was Elnora F. Ledbetter, who died on Feb. 21, 1976. He is survived by his second wife Dorothy M. (Sisson) Coyne Moore. Moore spent the greater number of his 34 years of teaching in the Gosport Schools. He was also a successful basketball coach and principal at Gosport. He retired in 1975 from a teaching position at the Owen Valley High School. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Gosport, alumni member at both Indiana University and Indiana State University, and a 50-year member Masonic Lodge 92 F&AM. He was named the Outstanding Senior Citizen for the Gosport Lazy Days Parade and served on many local committees. Survivors include a son, John W. Moore Jr., Kalamazoo, Mich.; a daughter, Sue Ann Pitts, San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Wilma Parrot, Jeffersonville, Ind.; stepson, Thomas Coyne, San Francisco, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Connie Galliber, Rancho Santa Marguerita, Calif., and Marian Coyne, Huntington Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. The service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Gosport. The Rev. Steve Eads will officiate. Burial will be in Gosport Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Gosport and from 1 until the time of the service on Friday. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Gosport First United Methodist Church, in care of, Whitaker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 86, Gosport, IN 47433.
