David Landeis
David Leo Landeis, 51, died Aug. 30, 2008, in his Mandan home after nearly a two year battle with prostate cancer. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Committal service will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Mandan, with a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. There will be no visitation at the church on Wednesday.
David was born Oct. 15, 1956, in Mandan, the son of Leo and Hildegard (Leingang) Landeis. He attended school in Mandan and went to Mandan High School. He married Denise LaFramboise April 27, 1979, in Bismarck and together, they had two sons.
David was a long time meat cutter, starting with Circle Foods in 1981 until 1993 in Mandan, then Missouri Valley Meat Company from 1993 to 2006. He started playing drums in high school and continued for 30 years, though he could not read a note. David loved a wide range and style of music, which he passed on to his sons. In addition, David started a newspaper delivery route, which he and his sons did for 17 years. His enjoyment of the outdoors would include hunting, but most of all fishing, which he would say "It's never to hot and never to cold to fish". Being an avid sports fan, he had his favorite teams, the Vikings, Twins and Knicks.
His sense of humor, good timing and comments will be missed by his wife, Denise, Mandan; his two sons, Jason Landeis (fiance, Shannon Thompson, and her children, Keely and Anna Liese Thompson) Phoenix, and Justin Landeis, Fargo; parents, Leo and Hildegard, Mandan; father-in-law, John LaFramboise Jr., Bismarck; mother-in-law, Jane LaFramboise, Mandan; sister, Sharon Holmes, Faulkton, S.D.; brothers-in-law, John (Brenda) and Steve LaFramboise, all of Bismarck; nephews and niece, Brian Peterman, Aberdeen, S.D., Bradley Peterman, South Dakota, Jeremy (Bobbie) LaFramboise, Megan LaFramboise, Travis LaFramboise, Tyler LaFramboise, all of Bismarck, and John (Kristen) LaFramboise IV, Glen Ullin; and his cat, Sammy, who was always by his side.
He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mike LaFramboise; his step mother-in-law, Jan LaFramboise; and all of his grandparents.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society and the North Dakota Humane Society.
