WINDTHORST — George Veitenheimer, age 83, a life-long resident of Windthorst, Texas, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011, in Wichita Falls.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. David Kraeger, Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.
George, one of nine children, was born May 14, 1927, in Windthorst, Texas, to Vitalis F. and Adelaide Koetter Veitenheimer.
He and Anna Mae Lindeman were married July 7, 1947, in Scotland, Texas.
George was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, and the Building and Finance committees. He served as Eucharistic Minister, minister to the sick, and was also a member of the church choir. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Society. He had served on the Archer County Hospital Board, the Board of Education for Windthorst Independent Schools, and the Windthorst Water Department. He also served on the Windthorst Federal Credit Union, Credit and Supervisory Committees and the Board of Directors of the Windthorst National Bank. George helped organize Little League Baseball in Windthorst.
He was a rural mail carrier from September 1952 until his retirement in February 1985. George was a partner in C & G Veitenheimer Dairy, Inc. for a number of years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having proudly served in the South Pacific and a life member of the VFW Post 2676.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae of Windthorst; five daughters, Carol Vela and husband, Chuck Yates of Denton, Texas, Gail Schroeder and husband, Joey of Windthorst, Texas, Julie Stiver and husband, Bill of Wichita Falls, Texas, Patty Roewe and husband, Norbert of Houston, Texas, and Laurie Tubbs and husband, David of Wichita Falls; two sons, James Veitenheimer and wife, Yvonne and Charles Veitenheimer and wife, Mitzi of Windthorst, Texas; two sisters, Delores York of Windthorst, and Florence Peters and husband, Bookman of Bryan, Texas; one brother, Emil Veitenheimer of Windthorst; twenty-two grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Urban and Adolph; and three sisters, Julianna, Lauretta and Agnes.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Tommy Roewe, Blaine Schroeder, and Matthew Tubbs and his grandsons-in-law, Andy Bloom, Gary Berend, and Will McLellan. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the VFW Post 2676.
