Walhalla, ND-Funeral service for Vernon Meidinger, 83, of Walhalla and formerly of Ashley will be 10:00 am, Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Carlsen Funeral Home in Ashley, ND. The Rev. Wenceslaus Katanga of St. David’s Catholic Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Ashley City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
Vernon died March 29, 2015 at Pembilier Nursing Center in Walhalla.
Vernon Meidinger, son of Emil and Hulda (Fey) Meidinger was born August 2, 1931 in rural Fredonia, ND. He farmed for many years near Fredonia, in addition to operating his own gravel truck business. He later worked for the McIntosh County Road Maintenance Department before eventually going to work for the Soo Line and later Canadian Pacific Railroads where he retired in 1995.
Vernon enjoyed traveling to California in his younger years visiting his parents and brothers near Lodi, CA. He also enjoyed collecting railroad related antiques and collectibles.
Vernon is survived by two sons, Terry (Karen) Meidinger of Walhalla, ND and Tim (Lotchana) Meidinger of Bettendorf, Iowa and one sister, Arlene Rudolph of Gackle, ND. He was also blessed with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren whom he greatly enjoyed spending time with.
Preceding Vernon in death were his parents, Emil and Hulda, five brothers, Lloyd, Norman, Kenny, Virgil and Jack and one sister, Joyce Brockel.
Casketbearers will be Cody Meidinger, Max Meidinger, Ron Meidinger, Chad Lafferty,
Gene Rudolph, Arno Rudolph, Tim Meidinger and Terry Meidinger.
The organist will be T.J. Haerich.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
