Leola, SD-Funeral service for Jay L. Meidinger, 40, of Leola will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola. The Rev. Sara Sorensen will officiate.
Burial will be in New Kassel Cemetery, rural Zeeland, ND.
There will be a prayer service Wednesday at 7 pm with visitation from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
Jay died September 4, 2015 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Jay Lee Meidinger, son of Kenneth and Constance “Connie” (Feil) Meidinger was born January 20, 1975 at Ashley, ND. He grew up in Long Lake, SD, graduating from Leola High School with the class of 1994. Jay did maintenance at the Long Lake Senior Housing and was a hired farmhand for Charles Fischer, also helping set up auction sales for Fischer Auctions. Jay worked as a reservationist at Wyndham Hotels. He moved to Bismarck, ND in 1996 where he worked at Ground Round Grill & Bar, Royal Fork Buffet and Bonanza restaurants. In 1998 he returned to Long Lake and began working again for Charles Fischer. He also worked for Aberdeen American News hauling newspapers to area towns. In 1999 he became employed at M & H Gas Station and a short time at Steak and Buffet. In 2003 Jay began work at Bonn Express as a car wash attendant. His health began failing in 2013. He made his home with his father where they helped each other until his dad’s death on May 4, 2014.
Jay enjoyed spending time with his friends, fishing and listening to music. He liked to watch television; his favorite programs was the food network, shopping channels and Ice Road Truckers. Jay was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared Jay’s life is his mother, Connie Meidinger of Leola; brother, Keith Meidinger of Aberdeen; two sisters, Holly (Denton) Hale of Aberdeen and Mandee Meidinger of Ipswich.
He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents.
Casketbearers will be Keith Meidinger, Loren Feil, Alan Walther and George Donovan.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.
Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
