Arnold "Arne" August Schock, 73, Steele, passed away on January 2, 2015, at Sanford Health, Bismarck.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Golden Manor Chapel in Steele, ND.
Arnold was born on September 9, 1941, to August and Selma (Bender) Schock of Crownhill Township, southeast of Steele. He graduated from Steele High School in 1960 and joined the US Navy in 1961. Following basic training and boilerman school, he served 3 ½ years on the USS Spiegel Crove. During his tour of duty, his ship took part in the Cuban Missile Crisis and also supported the Cypress Crisis in the early 60s. Upon completion of his Navy duty, he worked as a heavy equipment operator in road construction until his retirement in 2002.
Arne had a keen interest and took pride in organic gardening and in sharing his harvest with family and friends. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Cleveland. Though he was a quiet person, he was kind and generous. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Arne's family thanks the Steele ambulance crew and also the Sanford Health Center for the care that was given to Arne.
Arne is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Schock, Roseburg, OR; his brother, James (Marlys) Schock, Boise, ID; and one aunt, Magdalena Bender, Strasburg, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
