Obituary:
John W. "Jack" Ehrhart, 69, of Mayetta, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at the Holton Community Hospital.
He was born October 12, 1936 in Topeka, the son of John A. and Blanche V. Ward Ehrhart. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1955 and had lived in the Hoyt and Mayetta communities the majority of his life.
Jack worked for the Kansas Highway Department and later the Kansas Department of Corrections. In 1962 he started Ehrhart Excavating, which he owned and operated until his death. He was also employed by Jackson County Water District No. 1, as an operator, and he owned and operated the Silver Dollar Lounge in Mayetta during the 1980's.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta, Mayetta Knights of Columbus Council No. 9535 and the Mayetta Business Association. He also had served on the Mayetta Pioneer Days Committee.
Jack married Mary L. Ray on June 14, 1958. They were divorced.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Corene Sollars, and a son-in-law, Mark Thurman.
Survivors include his long time companion, Ruth Hicky, Osage City; two sons, Bob Ehrhart and his wife Karen, Hoyt, and Ben Ehrhart and his wife Wendy, Mayetta; two daughters, Lisa Thurman, Mayetta, and Terri Koch and her husband Roger, Lawrence; one sister, Joan Ehrhart, Topeka; and nine grandchildren, Rachel and Nicholas Ehrhart, Gretchen and John Ehrhart, Laura, Matthew and Jenna Thurman, Chris Koch and Kelli Wachter and her husband Andrew.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 21st at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery at Hoyt.
