Thompson Bethel, 71, Topeka, died Wednesday, June 30, 1993, at a Kansas City, Mo. hospital.Mrs. Bethel was a claims representative in Topeka and later an operator supervisor in Kansas City, Mo., for the Social Security Administration.She was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Hoyt, the daughter of Edward Lawrence and Agnes Ehrhart Thompson. She was graduated in 1939 from Topeka Catholic High School and attended St. Mary's College.Mrs. Bethel was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle No. 503, Irish American Cultural Institute, Shawnee County Democrats and Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.Her husband, Bruce Bethel, was killed in military action during World War II in 1943 while serving in the Army Air Corps.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Most Pure heart of Mary catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Bethel will lie in state from 2 until 9 p.m. today at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where rosaries will be recited at 6:30 p.m. by Daughters of Isabella and at 7 p.m. by the parish.
