Harris, 67, of Springfield died Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at his home. He was born December 18, 1933, in Tamaroa, the son of Olin K. and Carmen Ehler Harris. He married Suzanne "Sue" Benoit in 1968. Mr. Harris had been an artist for the Department of Natural resources since 1970. He was hired to provide art work for the Department of Conservation. He worked at Silver Springs State Park, where he built displays at Galena and at Illinois Beach. He also created artwork featuring Abraham Lincoln at some of the historical sites. He was transferred to the Springfield headquarters in 1973, and worked out of a workshop and art studio at the department's Pawnee warehouse. His work appears in Illinois issues magazines, DNR publications and note cards and decorates its offices. He is renowned for his work featuring birds. He was an adjunct professor in publication design at university of Illinois at Springfield for 10 years. he published a book "An artists book of birds" in 1996. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri and the University of Illinois and a US Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean war. Survivors include wife, Sue; tow daughters, Brittan Harris, (husband Michael Meyers) and Bettina B. Harris, both of Springfield; a son, Blake Harris of Springfield; three sisters, Betty (husband, Eugene) Leidig of Addison, Colleen (husband , Harold) Stanley of Springfield and Jeanette (husband, Leon) Eisenhauer of Mahome; and several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.
