Mass of Christian Burial for William "Will" Sherwood III, 33, of McLaughlin was held Monday, June 29, 2009 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in McLaughlin. Fr. Jim Hoerter and Fr. Tony Grossenburg officiated. Burial was in the McLaughlin City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Will passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
William Samuel Joseph Sherwood III was born on July 24, 1975 to William and Victoria (Keller) Sherwood in Bismarck, ND. He grew up and attended school in McLaughlin. Before his senior year in school his family moved to Pierre where he graduated from Riggs High School in 1994. Following graduation Will worked various jobs in Pierre, Iowa, Kansas and Mobridge before settling in Dickinson, ND where he worked for Southwest Grain.
He married Robin Meduna in 2000 in Dickinson. He resided there until November of 2008 when he moved to McLaughlin.
In April of 2009 Will was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer forcing him to quit his job at the Grand River Casino and become hospitalized.
Will enjoyed electronic gaming, drawing cartoons, acrylic painting, collecting dragons and swords, raising exotic animals such as miniature horses, llamas, peacocks, alpaca, potbelly pigs, exotic chickens and rabbits, rag doll cats, ferrets, miniature Doberman pinschers and iguanas.
Will was a very special personable, passionate, caring, gentle person. He made friends easily wherever he went.
Will is survived by his father, William Jr. (Deborah) Sherwood of McLaughlin; two brothers, Dennis Sherwood of McLaughlin and Steven (Billie Jo) Sherwood of Highmore; four sisters, Michealle (Kevin) Jantzen of Solen, ND, Denise (Leonard) Feist of Newcastle, WY, Sue Sherwood of Isabel, and Stephanie (Tim) Holzer of Mobridge; uncles, Gregory Sherwood of McLaughlin, Paul (Marge) Keller of Mobridge, Tim (Colleen) Keller of McLaughlin and Andrew Keller of Lafayette, LA; aunts, Candice Sherwood of McLaughlin and Malinda Sherwood of McLaughlin; nieces, Dusty (John) Helland, Brandy (Brady) Faehnrich, Melissa Heid, Amanda Feist, Kaitlin Holzer, Kailee Webb, Wendy Sherwood, Kenna Webb; nephews, Chance Heid, Ty Heid, Logan Heid, Luke Jantzen, Jeremy Feist and Zane Sherwood; great-nephews, Dalton and Brady Jack Faehnrich, Zachary Heid, Kaden Heid and Jonas Helland; great-nieces, Rian and Lexie Helland, Madison Heid, and Gracie Jo Faehnrich, and Diego, his Siberian Husky.
Will is preceded in death by his mother, Victoria; paternal grandparents, William and Helen Sherwood; and maternal grandparents, Wendelin and Leuna Keller.
Casketbearers were Ace Baker, Kyle Baker, Ty Heid, Luke Jantzen, James Bowlin, and Jimbo Brickman.
