Birth: Mar. 27, 1935 Bottineau Bottineau County North Dakota, USA Death: Jan. 8, 2010 Bottineau Bottineau County North Dakota, USA A memorial service for Leo Wittmayer, age 74, of Willow City, was held on Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the Nero Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery of Willow City. Cremation has taken place. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Phillip Hanneman. Elaine Freeman was the organist. Honorary bearers were all of Leo’s nieces and nephews. Military honors were by the Willow City VFW. Leo Rueben Wittmayer, a son of Fred and Magdalena (Brandt) Wittmayer, was born on March 27, 1935 at Bottineau. At a young age, he lived in Gardena with his parents moving to Omemee an then to Willow city where he graduated from Willow City High School. On January 13, 1954, he entered the US Army and was honorably discharged on December 28, 1955. He then attended the School of Forestry in Bottineau then Minot State College. Leo completed his education at the University of British Columbia in Canada. He then moved to Washington State where he worked until the mid 70’s. Leo then returned to Willow City where he has worked since. He enjoyed baseball and was on the 1953 Willow City State Basketball team. Leo was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran church and the Willow City American Legion. Leo passed away on Friday January 8, 2010 in a Bottineau hospital. He is survived by a sister Gladys Arneson of Willow City; a brother Harley Wittmayer and his wife Carrie of Minot, and many nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd, Clifford, Edmund, Melvin, Orval, Clarence and Armand; and a sister Esther Gorrin.
