Obituary for Alice B. Bender
The funeral service for Alice B. Bender, 66, of Frederick, SD, is 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 15, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Frederick, with Pastor Galen Sylvester officiating. Burial will follow at Wayside Cemetery, Frederick. Alice passed away Wednesday, September 10, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.
Visitation is 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Fellowship Hall directly East of the funeral home.
Alice Pfeifle was born on November 22, 1947 to Julius and Adele (Graff) Pfeifle in Ashley, ND. She grew up and attended school in Ashley. After graduating, Alice moved to Aberdeen. She married Terrance Bender in 1967 and they resided in Westport, SD. They were divorced in 1985. She then moved to Frederick where she met her special friend, Dana Maunu. Over the years, Alice was a home maker and held several jobs. She was a housekeeper at Avera Midland Campus, worked at Conlin’s, and was a cook at the Legion in Frederick.
Alice was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Frederick. She loved watching birds and squirrels. Alice had a passion for butterflies and collected them. Although life was a daily struggle, she kept a positive outlook. Alice always had a kind word and a smile for everyone and was at peace with herself and the Lord. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Alice was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
Grateful for having shared Alice’s life are her special friend: Dana Maunu, Frederick, SD; her children: Stacy (Jason) Maunu, Barnard, SD, Tanya Svendsen (Mike Wilson), Westport, SD, Jason (Jennifer) Bender, Westport, SD, Darcy (Kent) Wirebaugh, Aberdeen, and Lindsay Maunu, Aberdeen; her grandchildren: Nathan, Shannen (Kurt), Michael, Matthew, Memphys, Darin, Sydney, Hayley, Kyley and Isabell; and her siblings: Viola Klein, West Fargo, ND, Elmer (Elenora) Pfeifle, Cedar Rapids, IA, Leroy Pfeifle, Comanche, IA, Ervin (Lavon) Pfeifle, Fargo, ND, Myron (Judy) Pfeifle, Bismarck, ND and Kenny (Carlotta) Pfeifle, West Fargo.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Adele, her brother, Martin Pfeifle and one nephew.
