Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel Micheal Baumgartner, 78, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Aberdeen.
Daniel passed away from a cardiac arrest Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Daniel Micheal Baumgartner was born on September 27, 1935, to John and Margaret (Imberi) Baumgartner in Hague, ND. Dan spent his youth on the family farm milking cows and raising crops.
On June 13, 1960, Dan married the love of his life, Alvina Kiefer, at St. Aloysius Church, which was a country church by Hague, ND. They moved to Columbia, SD in 1961. Dan worked for Harvey Eichler and later went to work for Hanson Farms and then Charlie Mitchell. In 1978, Dan moved his family to Aberdeen, SD, where he was employed in the construction world for Larson Construction and then went to work for Kyburz Carlson Company. After 20 years, Dan retired.
Dan spent his time going for walks and was very dedicated to his exercise program every morning. He enjoyed attending daily Mass and then going for coffee with his retired friends. Dan enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never stopped them from messing up his well-groomed hair.
Dan is survived by his wife of 53 wonderful years, Alvina; four children: Karen Hieb (Jeff) Swank, Francis (Vicky) Baumgartner, Cindy (Chris) Mitchell and Susan (Andy) Kreager; seven grandchildren; six step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters: Mildred (Francis) Schall, Delores Hennessey, Lenora Muehler; brother: Pete (Delia) Baumgartner and sister-in-law, Lois Baumgartner.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Baumgartner; brother, Victor Baumgartner; son-in-law, Paul Hieb; and grandson, Adam James Mitchell.
