Aberdeen - Mass of Christian Burial for Paul Allen Hieb, 49, Aberdeen, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 215 North Arch Street. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, with Father Gregory Tschakert officiating. A liturgical wake service will be 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. N.W. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary, and for one hour before the funeral at the church.
Paul passed away Feb. 7, 2005, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, after a battle with cancer.
Paul was born April 17, 1955, at Aberdeen. His parents are Harry & Hope (McConnell) Hieb. He attended School in Aberdeen and graduated in 1973 from Aberdeen Central High.
Paul worked for his father at Harry's Motor Service, later he worked for his Uncle George at Northwest Engine Supply. He also worked for the City of Aberdeen, Biegler Motors and Twin City Fan. In 2003 he started Paul's Lot Service, and in January of 2004, he opened Paul's Repair & Lot Service.
Paul married Karen Baumgartner on May 13, 1983. They made their home in Aberdeen.
At an early age Paul became very interested in the automobile. His love was to make the car go faster. He spent many weekends racing at the Brown County Speedway. In 1983 he was known as the “Oh bearded one.” He never kissed a trophy girl only shook her hand. He then turned his interest to restoring cars. His love for cars carried on to his children and all of their friends. Paul always had time for visiting with everyone. His children's friends always had time to stop and see what was new at the shop and seek his “Advice.”
Nineteen months ago a beautiful granddaughter entered his life. She received his undivided attention as she was “PaPa's Girl,” who also doubled as his own nurse.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Dakota Heartland Cruizers Car Club.
Paul is survived by his wife; children, Travis, of Sioux Falls, Todd, Paula (Terry Ames, future son-in-law), Anthony, Lance, MaLinda, all of Aberdeen; granddaughter Margaret; his father, Harry; stepmother, Lucille (Bosma) Hieb; stepbrothers, Gary (Dana) Bosma of Pennsylvania, William (Jahn) Bosma, Ohio, Robert (Jackie) Bosma, Aberdeen, Jim Bosma, Aberdeen, Rich (Jana) Bosma, Aberdeen, Barb (Robert) Clinton, Sioux Falls, Susan (Bruce) Odson, Vermillion, Kathy (Ron) Hall, Aberdeen; his father and mother-in-law, Daniel & Alvina Baumgartner, brother-in-law, Francis Baumgartner, sisters-in-law, Cindy (Chris) Mitchell, all of Aberdeen, Susan (Andy) Kreager of Montana, and best buddy, Rick (Deb) Sayler of Aberdeen.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
