Harry A. Hieb, son of Theobald and Anna (Junkert) Hieb was born on May 12, 1925 on the Hieb family farm in McPherson County, SD. At the age of five, following his father’s death, he moved with his mother to Hosmer, SD. This is where he attended school through the 8th grade. Harry was confirmed on June 25, 1939 at the Hosmer Reformed Church. He moved with his family to Aberdeen following his mother’s marriage to Fred Jundt in 1939.
Harry was united in marriage to Hope McConnell on August 12, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. In April of 1955, they were blessed with the adoption of their son Paul Allen Hieb. The couple made their home in Aberdeen and Harry worked several jobs in the automotive industry. He began working at Montgomery Ward in the auto accessories and tire department and later went to work for McNeary Pontiac as their parts manager.
In 1945, Harry opened Harry’s Motor Service which he operated for several years. He returned to work at McNeary Pontiac in the parts department and later as a salesman and also sold ads for a short time at the Aberdeen American News.
In 1953, Harry reopened Harry’s Motor Service as an engine rebuilding shop. He ran the business for over 20 years, selling it to his half-brother George in 1975. In 1976, they moved to Mitchell, SD and established the Mitchell Car Museum which he operated with his wife until 1984. While living in Mitchell, Harry was active in the building of the Grace Reformed Church. His beloved wife Hope died on April 23, 1998.
Harry was united in marriage to Lucille (Neuharth) Bosma on July 16, 1999. They made their home in Aberdeen. Lucille died on September 24, 2006.
Harry loved cars and anything automotive related. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Harry served as a Gideon for many years and was also a member of Toast Masters, serving as President for two terms. He was active in the First Reformed Church in Aberdeen serving as Elder for ten years, and also served as Elder at the Grace Reformed Church in Mitchell for nine years.
Grateful for having shared Harry’s life are his six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, seven step children, one half-brother George (Mavis) Jundt, and one daughter-in-law Karen (Jeff) Swank.
