Dr. H.R. Wenner , 80, of 312 W. Findlay St., Carey, died at 3:51 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2001 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.
He was born Aug. 14, 1920 in rural Carey to C.C. and Cecil (Beebe) Wenner . His stepmother, Alice Wenner , survives in Tiffin. He married Mary Frances Snobarger on Aug. 31, 1940, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John (Tracy) Raymaley, Upper Sandusky; and Mrs. Ronald (Cassandra) Kromer, Carey; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a stepsister, Jeanne Christian, Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert; two sisters, Martha Carter and Ruth Coppler; and a stepbrother, Robert Bacon.
Dr. Wenner was a veterinarian in Carey for the past 57 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and in college was a member of the U.S. Army Specialized Training Program from 1941-1943.
He graduated from Carey High School in 1937, attended Ohio Northern University from 1938-1939, and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ohio State University in 1943.
Dr. Wenner was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Earl Green American Legion Post 344, F&AM Lodge 420 and RAM Chapter 159, all of Carey; and American, Ohio and North Central Veterinary Medical associations. He was a charter member of Carey Jaycees and served as its first president.
He served 12 years on the Carey Board of Education; served as a board member of Angeline School of Opportunity; and served on the church council.
In 1985 he was inducted into the Carey Hall of Fame and into Wyandot County 4-H as an honorary member in 1958. In 1978 Wyandot County 4-H recognized him for meritorious service. He also received the Carey Jaycees Distinguished Service Award.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Paul DeMoss officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
Memorials may be made to the church Memorial Gift Fund, Carey Ecumenical Choir or Our Lady of Consolation School in care of the funeral home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, 43316-1169.
