E. Alvern Sneeringer, age 83, resident of 25 Seneca Dr., Shelby died Thursday, August 28, 2003 in MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital. Born December 8, 1919 in Smithville, OH to Ira and Maude Alvern (Pittenger) Bates she had been a Shelby resident since 1947. A 1937 graduate of Mansfield Sr. High School she attended Mansfield General School of Nursing. Mrs. Sneeringer was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, established the Oakland Lutheran Womens Missionary Society in Mansfield; was a member of the Lutheran Women Missionary Circle, Beta Sigma Pi Sorority and the Al Koran Ladies Organization of Cleveland; and had served as past president of the Shelby Women's Club and the Shelby 97 Club. She, along with the Shriner's spouses, was instrumental in organizing, entertaining and feeding the Shriners after the Memorial Day Parades. She enjoyed entertaining, playing cards and golf, traveling and quilting.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Alfred Sneeringer, Sr., whom she wed Sept. 5, 1942; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Kuntzman of North Potomac, MD; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Alfred Sneeringer, Jr. of Columbus and Larry and Faye Sneeringer of Ft. Lupton, CO; six grandchildren and their spouses; Laura and Douglas Oswald; Michael Kuntzman; Jeffery and Jessica Sneeringer; Rebecca and Jason Boinott; Melynda and Randy Evans; and Holly Sneeringer; four great grandchildren, Jacob Oswald, Justin, Aubree, and Lucas Evans; nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, George Bates, three half-brothers and one half-sister.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday from the First Lutheran Church in Shelby. Reverend Steven C. Bond will officiate with interment in Mansfield Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the First Lutheran Church and the American Heart Association.
