John G. McGann Sr., 81, of Natrona Heights, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 13, 1930, to Paul C. and Marie (Sossong) McGann in the Crafton section of Pittsburgh. John graduated from Washington VoTech High School in 1947 and the served three years in the Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge from the service, he began his long and storied career as an appliance salesman with Sears-Roebuck in Dormont and continuing with Joseph Horne's, The Appliance Store and J.A. Williams Co. He married Joanne E. Weber in 1957, they settled in Natrona Heights in 1966 and raised seven children together. He was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, in Natrona Heights. John is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Bill (Susan), of Kent, Ohio, Greg (Megan Huff), of Philadelphia, Lisa (John) Kemerer, of Jeannette, Cindy (Patrick) Magdinec, of Valencia, Paul, of Savannah, Ga., Bob (Carleen), of New Castle, and Michael (Janine), of Cary, N.C.; grandchildren, Molly and Katie McGann, Ryan and Casey Magdinec, Mason Kemerer, Joshua Ferrar, Liam and Bain McGann, Luke, Seth and Ben McGann; his sister, Mary Jean (Robert) Rasdal, of Clearwater, Fla.; and by his brother, Paul (Mary Jane), of Green Tree. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. McGann; sister, Ann M. Batykefer; and son-in-law, Raymond Ferrar. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, 724-224-8688, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial with full military honors will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of John may be made to Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Parish, 1526 Union Ave., Natrona Heights, PA 15065.
