Evelyn Marianne
Mettler, 91, Minot, form-
erly of Upham, passed
away on Wednesday, Au-
gust 2, 2017 in a Minot
adult foster care home.
Evelyn was born on
April 24, 1926 to Oscar
and Sanna (Wekseth) Vi-
kan in Bottineau, ND. She
was raised and educated
in the Bottineau area and
continued her education
at the Bottineau School of
Forestry. She was em-
ployed at Charnholms
Department Store in Bot-
tineau from 1941-1948.
Evelyn was united in
marriage to Arvel Mettler
(the love of her life) on
January 4, 1948 in Bot-
tineau. They made their
home on a farmstead in
Deep River Township,
near Upham. From this
union two children were
born, David and Diane.
After retiring, they moved
to Minot in 1992. They
spent several winters in
Texas and in 2010 moved
to assisted living in
Minot.
Evelyn’s loving family
includes: husband of 69
years, Arvel, Minot; chil-
dren: David Mettler,
Minot and Diane (Clyde)
Thorne, Minot; 4
grandchildren: Dustin
(Jennifer) Thorne, HI, Za-
chary (Amber) Thorne,

grandchildren, Maya &
Kayla Thorne, Eslie &
Zander Mettler; siblings:
Virgil (Janice) Vikan, CA,
Carol Tilton, KS and
Delores Belter, IL; along
with numerous nieces and
nephews.
Evelyn is preceded in
death by her parents,
brother and two sisters.
Funeral Service: Tues-
day, August 8, 2017 at
11:00 a.m. in Our
Redeemer’s Church,
Minot.
Interment: Rosehill
Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, Au-
gust 7th from 3:00 p.m. –
6:00 p.m. in Thomas Fam-
ily Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: are pre-
ferred to the American
Parkinson’s Disease Asso-
ciation.
