I am also researching the MEMMER name. My family is from Gosserweiler and Annweiller which are near each other. My great-great-grandfather, Elias REBHOLZ, (who was born in Ramberg, but his brothers and sisters were born in Annweiler) married Appolonia MEMMER (born in Gosserweiler). I'm not sure but I think that marriage may have taken place in NYC. (He arrived in NYC in 1839 at the age of 28). Appolonia MEMMER's father was PETER MEMMER and her mother was Jacobina KERNER. They were married January 26, 1813 in Gossersweiler. (He was first married to a Maria Anna Buchmann but I don't know if there were any children). I also believe that Elias REBHOLZ' sister, Susanna Rebholz, married Appolonia's brother, whose name was Sebastian MEMMER. If I am correct, they were married in both Gosserweiler (March 13, 1852) and Annweiler (March 25, 1852) -- maybe to celebrate their wedding with each family? By the way, I also know of another person researching an Anton Memmer who was born August 11, 1800 and who married a Eva Katherine Braun. Her name is Barbara Ann Wakefield, 6573 Gillis Drive, San Jose, California 95120. I saw her name when I was looking up Anton Memmer on the Mormon family search address (http://www.familysearch.org)

Dorothy, My gr gr grandparents were also Elias & Appolonia Rebholz! I just discovered this yesterday when I received my gr grandmother's death certificate showing them as her parents. My gr grandmother was Josephine Rebholz born 5/5/1850 & died 4/8/1903, both in NYC. She married Louis Eisenmenger who was born in Germany, I don't know where. He was a butcher & they lived in the German section of Manhattan. They had 7 children, Louis, Philip (my grandfather),Mary,John &Carrie (twins died in infancy), William, Josephine & Louise(died at 2). I'm brand new at this and you gave me more information than I could have hoped for plus we are somehow cousins!
Hi, Jim - Sorry for taking so long to respond to your message. Elias Rebholz was the first person in my family to come to America. He was born in 1811 and arrived in NY in 1839 at 28 years of age. His parents were Philip and Magdalena (nee Koch) Rebholz who were farmers in the town of Grafenhausen. His grandparents were Nicholas and Anna Eva (nee Hasselwander) Rebholz who were from Ramberg, Germany. Nicholas was a trader or merchant. It's very possible your John is a son or grandson of Nicholas and Anna Eva.
