Birth: Jun. 7, 1922 Story City Story County Iowa, USA Death: Jul. 14, 2012 Hudson St. Croix County Wisconsin, USA Orville "Bud" R. Baldus, 90, of Owatonna, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Hudson Hospital in Hudson, Wisconsin. He was born June 7, 1922 in Story City, Iowa the son of Walter and Ida (Lienenger) Baldus. The family moved to Oakland, MN. Bud attended Austin High School and received his service connected Honorary High School Diploma on November 11, 1999. He married Evna Egtvedt on December 27, 1941 in Austin and they enjoyed over 50 years together. He then entered the United States Navy where he was stationed aboard the USS Uranus, until his honorable discharge. In 1947, Bud worked as a mechanic for Lindenkugel Chevrolet in Owatonna. He then owned and operated Baldus Service in Owatonna for 23 years. He later partnered with Tom and Linda Stockwell in BELT, a rock tumbler business. Bud was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, VFW, AmVets, the Owatonna Rock Club, and the Owatonna Coin and Stamp Club. He was extremely active in the community and loved to volunteer. He was awarded the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award (1991), the Golden Deeds Award (1996), Steele County Senior Citizen of the Year, and in 2006 was Grand Marshal of the Memorial Day Parade. Bud made many friends and enjoyed having coffee, visiting, and sharing stories. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (and Wayne) Hagen of LeRoy; two grandchildren, Kris (and Duane) Thofson of Shakopee, and Mark (and Angela) Hagen of Waukon, IA; three great granddaughters, Autumn, Emily, and Brianna; step sister, Ordella Rolfson, of Austin; sister-in-law, Genevieve Baldus of Montevideo; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Evna (1994), brothers and sisters. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM . Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend John Lestock officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna with military honors provided by Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
