OBITUARY-
Naoma Ida Baldus, 87, of Austin, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
She was born Oct. 3, 1914, near Story City, Iowa, to Walter and Ida (Leininger) Baldus. In 1927, the family moved to a farm in Oakland.
Naoma attended Austin High School, then vocational school, learning the sheet metal trade.
She worked as an engineer mechanic at the Minneapolis Airport, a hydraulic specialist at Douglas Airport in Chicago and a supervisor for eight Army Surplus stores in Chicago for 15 years. She later came back to Oakland to open "The Oakland Discount Center." After selling the business, she became the manager of the Green Stamp Store in Austin. She established a doll hospital in her home, a doll clinic for Austin and was a sales representative for Amway. She later was a cook at Woodvale Homes for the handicapped and then a Watkins sales person. She moved back to Rose Creek before moving to St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.
Survivors include daughter, Patricia (Dean) Sawyer, Goodland, Kan.; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Orville "Bud" Baldus, Owatonna; Willard "Bill" (Genevieve) Baldus, Montevideo; step-sister, Ordella (Kenneth) Rolfson, Austin; step-brother, Robert (Vickie) Shaw, Austin; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Lena Shaw; brothers, Irwin Baldus, Russell Baldus, Howard Baldus and Arnold Baldus; sisters, Inez Doggett and Elizabeth Coffman; step-sister, Juanita Shaw; step-brother, Arthur Shaw.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., today, Sept. 10, 2002, with a 6:30 p.m. wake service and Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Service: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery.
Funeral Home: Mayer Funeral Home, Austin.
