Children included Lillian, Helen, and Marie. August came to America with his parents in 1902, settling at Menno, South Dakota, before homesteading near Elgin, North Dakota. August drove the stage for more than three years between Glen Ullin and Old Leipzig for Michael Spangenberger who owned a livery business at Glen Ullin. He moved into Elgin in 1914, ran a dairy for many years and worked as a janitor for the Lorenzen Memorial Hospital at Elgin.
