Obituary
CHICOPEE ? Charles D. ?Charley? Arvin, Jr., 86, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, passed away unexpectedly at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on January 20, 1929, a son of the late Charles D. Arvin, Sr. and Hyacinth I. (Newbeck) Arvin. He was raised in Evansville and lived there for many years. In 1969, he moved to Milford, Massachusetts and lived there for several years before moving to Chicopee. He enlisted in the military on August 1, 1946 during the end of World War II and later served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Airman First Class. He received the Korean Service Ribbon, the United Nations Medal, the Aviator Badge and the Victory Medal. Following his military service, he enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves and attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and was employed as a Load Master at Westover Air Reserve Base for many years. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Charles D. ?Chuck? Arvin, III who passed away on June 24, 1998; and his brother, William A. Arvin. He leaves his wife of 22 years, Gisele R. (Aube) Arvin; his six children, Jan E. Sage and her husband, Robert, of Milford, MA, Tracey A. Arvin and her spouse, Mary E. Rogers, of Stow, MA, April J. Arvin of Claremont, VA, and Joanne M. Cote, Suzanne D. Fontaine and Thomas C. VanKeuren and his partner, Mercedes Narvaez, all of Chicopee; his seven grandchildren, Jennifer L. Contreras, Christopher J. Cote, Joseph E. Cote, Taylor M. Fontaine, William Rojas, Shinny Santiago and Kemuel Santiago; his great-grandson, Jonathan Robert Contreras; his sister-in-law, Mary Arvin of Newburgh, IN; and his two nephews, Terry Arvin of Evansville, IN and Billy Arvin and his wife, Sue, of Spokane, WA. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre ? Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will be private at the convenience of his family. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Thomas J. O?Connor Foundation, 627 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
