John M. Burkhart 1917-2006
John M. Burkhart, 88, of Woodsfield, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville. He was born Feb. 23, 1917, near Miltonsburg, son of the late Joseph and Margaret Schafer Burkhart.
Mr. Burkhart was a retired farmer and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War 11.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Burkhart; five sisters, Florence Hayes, Helen Burkhart, Marie Burkhart, Gertrude Harding and Alice Yarns.
He leaves a sister, Mrs. George (Martha) Kress of Woodsfield; a sister-in-law, Wilma Burkhart of Woodsfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Vigil services were held 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral liturgy with Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, with the Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik serving as celebrant. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
