Donald E. Holdren, 77, of Cambridge, passed away Thursday (January 10, 2013) in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 24, 1935 in Derwent, son of the late William E. Holdren and Faye (Stephen) Holdren.
Mr. Holdren worked for Consolidated Railroad Company (Conrail) and retired after thirty-seven years.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War. He was also stationed in Hawaii.
Don was a 1953 graduate of Cambridge High School. He was a life member of the Cambridge VFW Post 2901, Cambridge Eagles Aerie 386, and Cambridge American Legion.
Don enjoyed coaching Cambridge Little League Baseball and served a President of the Little League and District Five Administrator. He was also President and coach of the Cambridge Biddy League. Don was an avid bowler and golfer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Holdren; his mother-in-law, Hazel D. Floyd; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Holdren.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Joyce A. (Floyd) Holdren, whom he married on March 16, 1962; a daughter, Lori Beth Scott of Thousand Oaks CA; three sons, David E. (& Lori) Holdren, Daniel S. (& Tracie) Holdren, and Douglas S. (& Janet Felt) Holdren all of Cambridge; a sister, Viola Abrams of Cumberland; an aunt, Dee Hall of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Margie Holdren of Cambridge; and his grandchildren, Derek E. Holdren, Bear Holdren, Cody R. Smith, and Morgan D. Holdren all of Cambridge, Lillie Scott of Thousand Oaks CA, and Brendan D. Holdren of Cambridge. Don will be missed by many close friends.
Family and friends may call on Sunday (January 13, 2013) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Evang. Woody Biggs officiating. Military memorial services will immediately follow.
