Young Tucson Wife Mourns the
Death of Husband in Holland
Mrs. Walter Doyle Roquet, wife of the Davis-Monthan sergeant who died in Holland Saturday after parachuting from a B-29, was resting under a doctor's care at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Livingston, of 3006 East Linden street. With her, was her infant daughter, Donna.
The Linvingstons said Mrs. Roquet learned of her husband's fatal injury through newspaper reports and was especially upset because she had not been informed first by the air force. "We don't even know officially that he's dead," the Livingstons said.
Mrs. Roquet, the former Virginia Rae Fisk, was born in Benson. She is 21 years old and graduated from Tucson high school in January, 1947. She and her husband lived at 88 Consolidated Dwellings.
Mrs. Rqouet's first word of the plane disaster came with Friday afternoon's newspaper, which reported that Sgt. Roquet was one of the 11 crew members of the B-29 which caught fire on a mock bombing mission. The Livingstons said Mrs. Roquet spent a night of anxiety, not knowing what had happened to her husband.
The young couple was married at Davis-Monthan airbase by Chaplain Maj. John Burgess, Mar. 1, 1947. On the marriage license record at that time, Sgt. Roquet gave his age as 26 and his birthplace as Fremont, Ia.
Mrs. Carrie (Walter A.) Roquet, the sergeant's mother, telephoned here from her home in Fremont, Saturday morning to say that she had heard the news of the accident over the radio, the Livingstons reported. She had no official notice of her son's death.
Sgt. Roquet attended Fremont high school. He had been in the army and the air force since 1941.
