MENOKEN - Rose Marie Jahner, 96, Menoken, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center on July 31, 2009. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at St. Hildegard's Catholic Church, Menoken, with the Rev. Chris Kadrmas officiating. Burial will be in Menoken Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary and vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Rose Marie Hatzenbihler was born April 27, 1913, to John and Barbara (Barnhardt) Hatzenbihler on the family farm south of Center. She attended Yucca County School and later worked in Mandan where she met William "Bill" Jahner. They were married on Nov. 17, 1936, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan. They farmed Red Trail Farm, west of Mandan, until 1943 when they bought a farm south of Menoken. Rose worked side by side with Bill on the farm and liked working out in the field. She also milked cows and had her chickens.
Rose loved to sew and for years she sewed mittens and sold them at craft sales. Every year, people would look for her mittens because they were so warm and of course, everyone in the family had to have some. She sewed everyone in the family a lap blanket until she couldn't sew any more.
She will always be greatly missed and remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and would do anything for her family.
Rose was a lifetime member of St. Hildegard's Catholic Church which meant everything to her. Bill, Rose and many others helped build the church. Every year at the Fall Dinner, she was known as the Jelly Lady. She would sell the chokecherry jelly that her circle had made.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Amin and his nurse, Cyndi, for all the care they gave her; the Missouri Slope staff for taking such good care of her, Sue Forderer for coming every day while Rose was still living at home, Sharon Kurle for her help, Mary Sayler for the short time Rose was staying with her, Arlene Abraham for being her beauty shop for many years, and a special thank you to Father Chris Kadrmas for your visits - they meant so much to her.
Rose is survived by one daughter and two sons-in-law, Irene and Mienhard Blotsky, Menoken, and William Doersam, Minot; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Liz Haag and Beata Haag, both of Center; and three brothers, John (Barbara), Washington, Ralph (Louise), Mandan, and MJ, Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; one daughter, Dolores; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary; and four brothers, Jack, Matt, Pete and Frank.
