John Hatzenbuhler
John R. Hatzenbuhler, 79, rural Mandan, died March 19, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. John P. O'Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m.
John R. Hatzenbuhler was born April 3, 1921, near Crown Butte, to Ralph and Elizabeth (Stein) Hatzenbuhler. He lived in that area when he married Ida Gratz Jan. 12, 1943, at St. Vincent's Church, where they were presently active parishioners. They farmed and raised cattle 16 miles west of Mandan. They moved to Mandan and were active members of St. Joseph's Parish from 1956 to 1970, when they moved back to the farm, where they were presently living.
John was a member of Mandan Moose Club and Bismarck Eagles Club. He enjoyed working, dancing and being home with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ida; one son and daughter-in-law, John J. and Stephanie (Miller) Hatzenbuhler; one daughter and son-in-law, Ida and Jim Bauer; eight grandchildren, Lori, Lynn, Lisa, James J. and Tom Bauer, and Lacey, Kaylee and John Ross Hatzenbuhler; nine great-grandchildren, Justin, Rachel and Brian Kostelecky, Chad, Curt and Brandon Zachmeier, Renae and Ryan Zachmeier and Kimberly Bauer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack R. and Helen (Schmidt) Hatzenbuhler and Jim R. and Lucille (Fleck) Hatzenbuhler; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian and Simon Schmidt and Lorraine and Stanley Gerhardt, all of Mandan; one sister-in-law, Florentine Hatzenbuhler; and one brother-in-law, Frank Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joan Anne; his parents, Ralph and Elizabeth (Stein) Hatzenbuhler; two sisters, Cecelia and Isabelle; one brother, Ralph; and one brother-in-law, Floyd Mosbrucker.
