FLASHER — Norman "Beef" Fleck, 61, Flasher, died June 27, 2011, at Medcenter One, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Lawrence Catholic Church, Flasher, with the Rev. Daniel Berg as celebrant. Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Flasher.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m. and parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
Norman was born on July10, 1949, to Mike and Katherine (Steckler) Fleck. He graduated from Flasher High School. On April 11, 1970, he married Geralyn (Gerri) Eckroth at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan. Farming was his passion; he farmed and ranched southwest of Flasher until 2008. After an ATV accident he and Gerri moved to Bismarck. During his rehab he was determined to walk again and despite of a lot of hard work and pain he continued with a smile on his face.
He served on the board of directors of the Flasher Farmers Union Grain and Oil Company and was also on the St. Lawrence Catholic Church Council. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight for two and a half terms.
Beef had many skills that served him well in his career as a farmer and rancher. A vacation for him was combining a beautiful crop of wheat. His motto was "If you can't do it right, don't do it at all." While he worked hard, Beef also played hard. He enjoyed playing pinochle, making sausage, visiting with friends, watching any kind of sports and enjoying a good western movie. Above all he had an unsurpassed love and pride for his children and grandchildren.
Norman will be forever missed by his wife of 41 years, Gerri, Flasher; son, Corey (Dawn), Flasher; daughter, Amy (Tim) Haas, Cody, Wyo.; mother, Katie Fleck, Mandan; grandchildren, Amanda, Bretten and Emalee Fleck and Avryl Haas; sisters, Geraldine Friesz, Beulah, Darlene (Marvin) Leingang, Mandan, and Marlene (Fred) Braun, West Fargo; brothers, Mike (Carol), Betton, Texas, and Arnie (Sandy) Sioux City, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Sharon (DuWayne) Ternes, Bismarck and Alex Eckroth, Minneapolis, Minn.; brother-in-law, Jim (Wendy) Eckroth, Ten Mile, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mike; sister, Noreen Fleck; brother-in-law, Leonard Friesz; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Ethel Eckroth; sister-in-law, Darla Eckroth and brother-in-law, John "Bud" Eckroth.
