Excerpt from Obituary in The Bismarck Tribune dated April 25, 2006
Steve Hett was born Dec. 2, 1954, in Bottineau, the son of Orrel and Delores (Mettler) Hett. He grew up on the family farm near Gardena and attended school there before graduating from Bottineau High School in 1973.
Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge in 1976, he returned to Bottineau, joined the National Guard and worked for McGuire Implement.
In 1977, he moved to Coleharbor and went to work on the Coal Creek Power Plant near Underwood. The following year, 1978, he moved to Fargo and attended Hansen Technical College and earned a degree in airplane mechanics.
Steve then moved to Mohall and went to work for Marvin Thom at the Mohall Airport. Steve eventually purchased the business from Marvin. They partnered in several other business ventures, including an aerial spraying business, fertilizer plant, and eventually Midwest Telemarketing International.
Steve was very civic minded and has served on the board for Farm Credit Services, Mohall Municipal Airport Authority, National Agricultural Aviation Association, Zion Lutheran Church Council, Mohall City Council and mayor of Mohall, in addition to being President and CEO of MTI. In November of 2003, he was appointed by Gov. John Hoeven to the North Dakota Economic Development Foundation. Steve was also a volunteer fireman and for a time helped on the Mohall Ambulance.
He was at one time married to Cynthia Billadeau. Steve and Cynthia had three daughters, Ashley and Chelsey, both of Minot and Miranda of Mohall.
Steve married Kathy Duerre in November 2004. Together, they were the proud parents of Ashley, Miranda and Chelsey Hett, and Scotty Duerre, Minot; Stephanie (Ryan) Walker, Larimore, and Rachelle Duerre, Grand Forks.
Besides his wife, Kathy, and children, he is survived by his parents, Orrel and Delores Hett, Bottineau; sisters, Debbie (Paul) Roberts, Lakeside, Calif., and Cindy (Mike) Forsberg, Kramer; 10 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
