Mary Elisabeth Hagerbaumer, age 76, of 2918 Harrison, Quincy, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 11:36 am in Blessing Hospital.
Mary Elisabeth Hagerbaumer | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home – Quincy, IllinoisShe was born May 19, 1930 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Elisabeth Aspenleiter Wegmann. On August 24, 1946, she married Robert Hagerbaumer in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1986.
Mrs. Hagerbaumer was of the Catholic faith. As a child she was well known as a vegetable seller with her brother Bill Wegmann and her parents. She cared for her mother-in-law Ida Hagerbaumer for 5 1/2 years and her mother for 6 years. The Hagerbaumers lived in Oklahoma for 4 years where she was president of Newcomers Club in Pryor. She was a member of South Side Ladies, Boat Club, Gem City Rock Club, and the Elks Auxiliary. For 20 years, she volunteered in the Tea room at Blessing Hospital and for 9 years was a patient representative at Blessing and St. Mary Hospital. Mrs. Hagerbaumer sang at weddings and funerals and was actively involved in bowling for 35 years and played bridge at the Women’s City Club. Mrs. Hagerbaumer was very proud of her German heritage. One of the best times of her life was going to Germany with her parents in 1972. She met her father’s 2 brothers, 2 sisters, cousins and her mother’s 2 sisters and cousins. She also saw the houses where they were born.
As a child Mrs. Hagerbaumer made thousands of ribbons for Genteman Florist and to her, Mrs. Genteman was the grandmother she never had. She was also an avid antique collector, especially dolls, children’s toys and dishes.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Sandra Walters of Quincy; and Sally Wagner and her husband Dennis of Augusta, IL; 5 grandchildren, Daniel Walters of Quincy; Robert Walters of Quincy; Marilee Watson and her husband Tim of Paxton, IL; Rondalee Knapp and her husband Richard of Raritan, IL; and Arthur Wagner of Augusta, IL; 6 great grandchildren, Corrinne and Esten Watson, Mackenzie Wagner-Allen, Brooklyn Knapp, and Allison and Christina Walters; a very dear friend for over 18 years, John Starr of Quincy, and many cousins in Germany and many friends everywhere.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Bill Wegmann.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Father John Carberry. Visitation will Monday evening from 4 to 6 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorial contributions made to Quincy Humane Society in her name would be greatly appreciated.
