Philipina Wanner
MOTT -- Services for Philipina Wanner, 87, Mott, will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott, with the Rev. Kurtakose Nediakala officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary and wake service will begin at 7 tonight at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott. Serving as casketbearers will be Kevin, Kurt, Kelly, Kim, Brian, Shawn Wanner, Jody Kraft, Cory, Troy, Jeremy Manolovits, Debra Lepp, Nell and Jennifer Friedt. All friends are considered honorary bearers. Philipina Marthaller was born Nov. 10, 1912, at Linton, to Valentine and Katherine (Glasser) Marthaller. She attended a local country school near Linton and as a young woman began helping on the family farm. Philipina was united in marriage to Alvin Wanner on Oct. 16, 1934, at St. Placidus Catholic Church north of Mott. Following their marriage, they worked with Alvin's parents on the Wanner farm in the St. Placidus area. In 1942, they purchased a farm north of Mott which they operated until retiring and moving into Mott in1969. They moved into Alvin's mothers home which they remodeled and added on to. Philipina enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. She entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mott and Alvin entered later on. Alvin passed away on Feb. 27, 2000. Philipina died Sept. 18, 2000, in the Hettinger hospital. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Simon and Regina, Mandan, Martinand Mary Ann, Winfield, Iowa, and Alvin Wanner Jr., Mandan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Gary Beckler, Hettinger, and Donna and Terry Manolovits, Bowman; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Milton and Ethelyn Marthaller, Hettinger, and Leonard and Edna Marthaller, Fargo, and Katherine Marthaller, Dickinson; one sister, Helen Herauf, Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Sebastian; two brothers, Alvin and Rafael "Ralph" Marthaller; and one brother-in-law, Joe Herauf. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
