A 1954 graduate of Monongahela High School, Tom was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monongahela. He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam war. There he had the opportunity to work with notables like Fred Rodgers, Bill Bixby and Andre Previn with prominent technical work in the Emmy nominated Once Upon a Classic Series. Thomas then began working with startup television stations across eastern and north central U.S. with locations in Pittsburgh, Kalamazoo, Chillicothe, Lima, Sandusky, Toledo and Bluefield. Thomas eventually came to work as the chief engineer at Wheeling Jesuit University on the NASA projects Classroom of the Future and the National Technology Transfer Center. Surviving are his wife, Carol (Giuffrida) Stoffel who he married Dec. 3, 1960; two sons, Dean T. and wife, Barbara Stoffel of Chaska, Minn., and David J. Stoffel of Moundsville, W.Va.; four sisters, Ruth (Harvey) Hennig of Georgetown, Texas, Julia (August) Schock of Emporia, Kan., Mary Martinka of Pflugerville, Texas and Edna (Ronald) Diltz of Kingston, Okla.; a brother, Earl (Carol) Stoffel of North Ridge, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Alexandra, Brittaney, Chelsea, Christopher, Eve, Zoe, Michelle, Jocelyn and Liv Stoffel; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara (Necciai) Stoffel of Monongahela.
