Born July 19, 1911, in Johnstown, the son of the late Lewis G. and Daisy M. (Hoffman) Shaffer. Preceded in death by sister, Ruby Elliot, and brothers, Lewis Jr. and Richard Shaffer. Survived by wife, the former Florence Edmiston, to whom he was married for over 70 years, and daughters, Elaine, married to Bruce Cooper, Phoenix, Ariz., and Nancy, married to George Carthew, Allentown. Also survived by eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Garnet Wonder, Johnstown, and Daisy Shaffer, New York City. Howard was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and retired as a works accountant from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Johnstown Plant. He was a board member of the Cambria City Mission, a member of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren and an associate member of St. Petersburg, Fla. Church of the Brethren.
