OTT - Luther Ernest "Ernie," 90, Windber, passed away June 19, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 29, 1922, in Paint Township, son of the late Dewey and Vernola (Naugle) Ott. Also preceded in death by wife, Clara Grace (Helman) Ott; son, Luther Ernest Ott Jr.; and brother, Doyle Ott. Survived by children, Clarice Jean Ott and Allen W., and wife, Pam, both of Windber; and Susan K. Ott, Johnstown. Also survived by daughter-in-law, Bonnie E. (Caldwell) Ott, Windber; grandchildren, Brian, Windber; Eric, and wife, Vani, Cincinnati; Christopher, and wife, Marleen, Dearborn, Mo.; and Jennifer Newfield, and husband, Carl, Cresson; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Casey, Neil, Makanna, Neena, Samantha, Kylee, Brenden and Noah. Brother of Ethel Gagnon, Levittown; and Hazel Ott and Ella June Ott, both of Windber. Also survived by stepgrandson, Rick Harcom, and wife, Kelley, and their children, Elvie and Caden; special friend, Olga Popp, Windber; sisters-in-law, Louella Edeline, Elton; and Leah Levin, E. Greenwich, Rhode Island. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie was a 1939 graduate of Windber High School and completed religious studies at Susquehanna Valley Ministry. Retired from U.S. Steel and was a member of USWA Local 1288. He was an ordained minister, previously serving as pastor of Ogletown Church of the Brethren, Nanty Glo Church of the Brethren, interim pastor of Rummel Church of the Brethren and chaplain at Windber Hospital. He was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America, volunteer blood drive coordinator with American Red Cross, and had donated more than 22 gallons of blood during his lifetime. Member of Rummel Church of the Brethren, where he served in many leadership roles on the administrative board, district board, a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Ernie was a caring and compassionate person who was dedicated to God, his family, and his friends. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rummel Church of the Brethren, the Rev. Ruby Mader, pastor, officiating. Private interment to follow at Berkey Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rummel Church of the Brethren, Memorial Fund, 3432 Graham Ave., Windber, Pa. 15963, in memory of Ernie.
