Reverend Marvin D. Lapp, 73, Minot, died Sunday, January 21, 2007 in a Ryder adult fostercare home.
Marvin was born March 10, 1933, in Eureka, South Dakota, to Adolph and Martha (Thurn) Lapp. He was raised on a farm near Eureka and graduated from high school in 1951.
Marvin attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and graduated from Wartburg Theological Seminary in 1959.
Pastor Lapp began his ministry at Zion Lutheran Church, Venturia, ND and St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Zeeland in 1959 and served those congregations until 1967. He served Martin Luther Lutheran and Zion Lutheran churches in the Fredonia, ND area from 1968 – 1970, before moving to Osnabrock, ND where he was pastor for Dovre and North Dovre Lutheran Churches from 1971 – 1974 and resided in Landa, ND while pastoring the Mouse River Lutheran, Trinity Lutheran and Bethany Lutheran churches from 1974 – 1981. Pastor Lapp moved to Minot when he retired in 1981 due to ill health. He had resided at the Hagen Adult Fostercare home near Ryder since 2002.
Marvin enjoyed all kinds of jokes and making sure all his fellow roommates had a Christmas gift. He attended Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot.
Surviving family includes: Sisters: Ruth Lapp, Eureka, SD, LaVina Keil, Aberdeen, SD and Marleen Rieger, Omaha, NE; Brothers: Rueben, Phoenix, AZ, Hilary, Eureka, SD and Donald Eureka, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents.
Funerals: Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot, and in Zion Lutheran Church, Eureka, SD on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 1:30 p.m.
Interment: Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Eureka, SD.
Visitation: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
