Anna Marie Hass, 80, Mandan, died Nov. 18, 2013, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Woman of the Moose ritual at 6:30 p.m. and a rosary/parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Anna Marie Berger was born Jan. 7, 1933, to Casper and Pauline (Weber) Berger in New Salem, where she was raised and educated. On May 3, 1952, Anna married Edward Hass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan. Working at several different restaurants, Anna started out as a waitress at The Hut-Bismarck Beanery, before settling in at Dakota Farms. She also volunteered as a school kitchen aide. Led by her strong will and determination, Anna lived at Liberty Heights from 1994 to the present. Going to Texas for a month in the winter or taking a cruise was a time she looked forward to. Anna enjoyed a good game of Bingo and Solitaire.
Anna will be deeply missed by her daughters, Norma (Jeff) Leingang, Baldwin, and Tammy (Andy) LaCount, Sweet Home, Ore.; her sons, Marvin (Lynn), Beulah, Rick (Wendy), Montgomery, Texas, Roger (Becky), Fargo, Edward (Connie), Montgomery, Texas, George (Barb), Hanover, Minn., David, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mike, Lincoln, Neb., and Dean (Caren), Jamestown; 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Clara Wirtz, Mandan, Virginia Jones, Bismarck, Mae Steele, Lincoln, Neb., and Delores “Susie” (Pete) Smith, Motley, Minn.; her brothers, Albert (Mary) Berger, Bismarck, Jim (Ranata) Berger, Oklahoma, and Joe (Sharon) Berger, Columbia, S.C.; and three sisters-in-law, Ranata Berger, Germany, Karen Berger, Las Vegas, and Marion Berger, Belfield.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, who died May 22, 1983; one daughter, Patty Hass; two sons, Donald and Robert; her sisters, Isabelle (Arnold) Baratner and Monica (Robert) Flindt; her brothers, Richard, Tony, Kenny, John, Casper Jr., and infant brother, Liberatus; and three brothers-in-law, Mack Wirtz, Warren Jones and Ed Steele.
