Barbara Schaff, 91, Glen Ullin, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Marian Manor Health Center, Glen Ullin. Barbara’s Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10 a.m., CT, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., CT, with Deacon Lance Gartner. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Barbara Meuchel was born November 6, 1923 on the family farm southeast of Glen Ullin in the St. Joseph’s Parish area. She was one of 15 children born to Lucas and Angelina (Kary) Meuchel, and was raised and educated southeast of Glen Ullin.
Barbara was united in marriage to Jack Schaff on January 12, 1942 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, near her home. Together they lived and farmed south of Glen Ullin, and also a few years north of Glen Ullin prior to moving into town in 1962. While in town, she worked for the Glen Ullin School district as a radio technician, and also at Cenex. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting and needle work, playing bingo, and fishing trips.
Barbara is survived by her four children, Arnold (Pattie) Schaff, Bismarck, Art (Mary) Schaff, Beaverton, Ore., Sandy (Mike) Gerving, Glen Ullin, and Amiel (Connie) Schaff, Dickinson; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Eleanor Wagner, Glen Ullin, Florence Veitenheimer, Vancouver, Wash., Loreine Geck, Mandan, Germaine (Kenny) Sibla, Glen Ullin, Caroline Opp, Bismarck, Regina Hawes, Salem, Ore., Angie Reed, Aurora, Ore., and Raynold Meuchel, Salem, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack on March 4, 1985; three brothers, Anton, Philip, and Ed; one sister, Betty; one infant brother; one infant sister; and one great-great-grandson, Bennett.
