Don A Strauss
April 19, 1930 - June 11, 2014
Don A. Strauss, age 84 of Brillion, formerly of Mesa, AZ, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2014 at his home after a short battle with cancer. Don was born April 19, 1930 to the late Joseph and Ida (Schnabel) Strauss. He attended school in Manfred and Fessenden North Dakota. On May 26, 1953 he married Shirley Johnson at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fessenden ND. Don worked at many jobs before taking over the family farm near Manfred, ND. He moved his family to Wisconsin in 1976 and worked as an assessor. After retirement, he moved to Mesa AZ where he worked as a security guard part-time. His whole life he enjoyed gardening, softball, the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. But his favorite pastime was dancing. He was a very religious man and attended church every Sunday right up until he became too sick. In December 2013 it was apparent that Don needed to return home so his family could help take care of him. At that time he moved to Brillion where three of his six children live and lived with his daughter Debbie.
Survivors include his ex-wife Shirley Schisel and her husband Jim of Brillion; children and grandchildren Darcie (John) Franz of Kimberly and daughter Heidi Julien and great-grandchildren Evan Goodwiler and Gabrielle Jansen of Menasha, Debbie Strauss of Brillion, Tamarra Strauss and children Samantha Schroeder of Brillion and Travis Schroeder and great-grandchildren Marissa and Allie Schroeder of Nichols, Mary(Jeff) Bermann and daughter Katie of Little Chute, Brigitte(Ted) Petrie and children George and Fiance Kaitlin Medenwald, Jedediah, Silas and Cecilia all of Brillion and Rob Strauss of Wild Rose; brothers and sisters Katie Gladheim of WA, Dick and Pat Strauss and Judy and Tommy Schaudel of NE, Audrey Larson of OR, Joe Strauss of AZ, John and Jennifer Strauss of AR and Arlene Ehni and Lucielle Wahl both of ND. He is also survived by many other family members and his special friend Patricia.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joe and Ida(Schnabel) Strauss, his sons Randy and Ricky Strauss, grandson Cody Strauss, brother Jim Strauss, sister Elaine Weigelt, brother in laws Ordean Gladheim, Ellery Ehni and Jim Larson and good friend Merlin. Funeral services will be on Wednesday June 18, 2014 at 5:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church 1100 W. Ryan Street, Brillion with Fr. Timothy Brandt officiating. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Burial will be in Fessenden North Dakota at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.wieting-funeralhome.com
