- [S927] Obituary.
William (Billy) Augutus Glennon, Jr. passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, in New Orleans. He was born March 4, 1931, in New Orleans to Ruth Mauffrey Glennon and William A. Glennon, Sr. A graduate of Jesuit High School, he was a member of the Blue Jays' world championship baseball team of 1946. His love of baseball started with the Hooligans, a little league team. He was also a member of Loyola's baseball team, where he caught for pitcher Moon Landrieu (he always said he would have been in the majors if only he'd had a pitcher who could read his signs). With the Korean Conflict ongoing, Billy earned his bachelor and law degrees from Loyola in only five years and immediately joined the United States Navy as a Lt.jg. He retired from the New Orleans City Attorney's office, after practicing law for over 50 years. After retirement, Billy devoted his life to the Catholic Church. He was a Deacon for St. Pius X Parish, taught RCIA and served as the chaplain for Kindred Hospital. Billy was a knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and a member of the St. Thomas More Law Society. He was a friend of Bill Wilson. Second only to church and family was his devotion to the New Orleans Saints. A ticket holder since 1967, his joy was made complete when he was present in Miami for their Superbowl victory with Susan at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Susan West Glennon. His children: William A. Glennon, III (Karen), Michael P. Glennon (Denise), Timothy J. Glennon (Lisa) and Kathleen M. Glennon, and his stepchildren, Kelly Kimbell Commander (Derek) and Katy Kimbell Sinor (Howard). Also nine grandchildren: Lily, Megan, Shannon, Cullen, Connor, and Molly Glennon, and Cory, Madeline and Christian Commander. He is survived by his brother Tommy, and was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick. Visitation at St. Pius X Church 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd. on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 9AM to 11AM followed by a Funeral Mass. Interment will be in St. Patrick #3 Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Schoen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations to Grace House are appreciated. Condolences may be expressed online at www.schoencanalstreet.com.
