Raymond R. Croegaert, 97, a resident of Hillcrest Home, Geneseo, formerly of Annawan passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the home. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan. Rev. Sebastian Tumusiime will celebrate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Annawan. Visitation for Raymond will be from 5 – 7 pm Monday, December 12 at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Atkinson; where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers and statuaries the family request memorials be directed to the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Raymond was born on March 14, 1914 in Annawan, the son of Charles & Emma (Packee) Croegaert. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Specht on September 26, 1933 in Hooppole; she preceded him in death in 1973. Raymond later married Miriam Walgrave on January 25, 1975 in Annawan; she preceded him in death August 3, 2008. He was a lifetime farmer in the Mineral & Annawan areas. Raymond also worked for the Mineral Oil Company for 10 years after he retired from farming. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Holy Name Society of the church, Knights of Columbus Council, and he was very active in Annawan/Mineral Boulders Club for many years. Raymond enjoyed Rolle Bolle, gardening, fishing, and winning at card games.
Survivors include a daughter Dolores Hemauer, Lagrange Park, IL; two sons Roland (Donna) Croegaert, Geneseo; Eldon (Debbie) Croegaert, Mineral; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, a great great grandson, two step daughters Kathy (Gene) Sturtewagen, Manchester, MO; Rose Cox, Laramie, WY; five step grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, three brothers, a son-in-law, a great grandson, two step sons and a step great granddaughter.
