Bernard John Schnabel
AGE: 88 • Boonton Township
Bernard John Schnabel, born March 14, 1925, passed away December 12, 2013. Bernie was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Bellmore, Long Island. He moved to Madison, NJ in 1958 and has lived in Boonton Township since 1973. Bernie graduated from Mepham High School on Long Island and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Kent State University in Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands with the 119th Battalion of Seebees. Bernie had a long and successful career as a banker. He worked at Bankers Trust Company in New York City from 1950 - 1958 and later worked at Horizon Bank in Morristown from 1958 - 1986. He once served as the bank's Auditor and later became Assistant Vice President of Bank Operations. Bernie was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3359 in Denville where he served as treasurer. He retired from JP Morgan Chase Bank 1989. Bernie will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, travel interests, enthusiasm for sports, love of family and service on behalf of his country during World War II.
Surviving are beloved wife Doris, son Paul Schnabel, sister Teresa Moebes of Smithtown, New York, and two grandchildren Jessica Schnabel and John Paul Schnabel and several nieces and nephews, friends and acquaintances who have the fondest memories of his love, affection, catholic faith, good natured personality and generosity over the years.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, in Boonton. A Memorial Service will be set for early February 2014 followed by a reception to celebrate the life of Bernie Schnabel.
