Charles F. Hauswald, 88, Corydon, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Guerin Woods Elder Care Facility in Georgetown.
Born Sept. 12, 1920, in Corydon, he was the son of the late Oscar and Mary Ernstberger Hauswald.
He was a retired post office employee, was active in the training and racing of horses, was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New Middletown and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen Cook, Elizabeth (Betty) Mack and Martha Jane Hauswald.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, the former Lillian Read; three sons, Thomas Hauswald of Jeffersonville, Steve Hauswald of Corydon and Philip Hauswald of Floral Park, N.Y.; three daughters, Mary McKulick and Julia Crone, both of New Albany, and Joan Lynn Schmidt of Corydon; three sisters, Dorothy Thomas of Sellersburg, Marge Warner of Rockford, Ill., and Barbara Freeman of Louisville; a brother, James Hauswald of Corydon; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 11, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Thursday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by burial in the church cemetery.
Celebrant: Father Dan Atkins.
Pallbearers: David and Philip Crone, Charles Hauswald, Clark Hanna, Rubin Lewis and Mike Sommers.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the St. Joseph Church Parish Hall Fund in Corydon.
