Bio: The Rev. Ronald H. Rutherford, 84, of Cairo, departed this earthly life Friday, May 23, 2008, at his residence, following an extended illness. He was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Petroleum, W.Va., a son of the late Robert and Anna Bradford Rutherford. He worked in the oil and gas industry and was retired from Tri-State Roofing in Parkersburg. The Rev. Rutherford had been the pastor at the former Petroleum Methodist Church for eight years and was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in the Pacific. He was a member of the Cairo Baptist Church, where he served as the Sunday school superintendent. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mabel C. Shields Rutherford; daughters, Linda (Dean) Baker of Ellenboro, Sylvia (Edward Bostic) Layfield of Petroleum, W.Va., and Diana (Kevin) Flanagan of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Russ, William and Clyde Rutherford; sisters, Dorothy Jonas, Isabelle Boston and Adelaide Cross; and son-in-law, Curtis Layfield. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Raiguel Funeral Home, Cairo. Interment will be in the Masonic Memorial Park in Cairo. Friends may call from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, May 24, 2008
